Penguins, known as birds of the sea, live mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, especially in Antarctica. Different penguins can live in close proximity due to their ability to dive which separates feeding levels thus insuring one species does not compete with another for food supply. There are warm water penguins, such as the Humboldt and Galapagos that are the exception to the distribution rule of cold water colonies. We have photographed the Little Blue Penguins and its subspecies, the Fairy and White-flippered Penguin, Gentoo, Adelie, Chinstrap, Macaroni, Southern Rockhopper, King, Erect-crested, Magellanic, African, Humboldt, Galapagos, Yellow-eyed and Fiordland Crested Penguin. The exact number of Penguin species is debated, between 18 and 20 by most counts. Our Penguin travels have taken us to Antarctica, Falkland Islands, Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, Australia, South Georgia, South Orkney, South Shetlands and Antarctica.
